Spotify is literally hosting an Andrew Tate podcast on “how to recruit and exploit women for pornography.”

They were hosting three of them. Two were removed because of public pressure, but one remains. He literally should have no platform for any reason.

Please boycott Spotify until they end this. And contact them to let them know that he’s a repugnant pile of shit who needs to be punched in the face.

@markwyner I have often thought about cancelling my spotify account, as they pay next to nothing to artists. I have to admit, I continued using the app for my music and podcasts, just with a bad conscience. Not proud of that...
I had a Premium account that I got with a phone contract.
I just cancelled it.
Your message came up in my timeline, and I looked up Tate on spotify. It was the last drop in the bucket for me. Thank you for giving me the last push I needed to delete spotify. I did let them know that I cancelled because they still give a platform to the likes of Andrew Tate.

@isa I’m with you. The lack of equity for artists is a crime in itself. This, however, is absolutely abhorrent. Imagine being the person who is like “sure, we can host these shows.” Anyway, I’m happy my post was influential for you. Thanks for letting me know. 🙌🏻

@markwyner @isa I use Tidal to stream music and I like it.

The ultimate goal is to own physical copies of the artists I love and be able to listen to them remotely somehow, but that day is not today.

@EyeOfTheWolf

Perhaps you’re in luck. @stux recommended this awesome tool:

@markwyner @EyeOfTheWolf @stux @isa How does Koel compare to Funkwhale?

Föderation EN Mi 12.03.2025 14:12:34

@BafDyce @markwyner @isa @EyeOfTheWolf it has no federation and if fully ‘private’ so only accounts you create

Its more like a personally Spotify and not a social part ;)

For me a req was a good iOS app with download capability

@markwyner holy fuck this is horrific. what the hell.

Föderation EN Di 11.03.2025 23:00:05

@markwyner Spotify essentially robbing musicians is not a problem, I see. Politics are. (never had it!)

Föderation EN Di 11.03.2025 23:14:25

@markwyner as if I needed another reason to cut my subscription...only issue is swapping family (spouse & not-so-tech-savvy in-laws) to another service like Qobuz...

Föderation EN Di 11.03.2025 23:21:52

@markwyner holy fuck, he needs to be stopped

Föderation EN Di 11.03.2025 23:23:57

@markwyner Been using for some time now, the web UI + iOS is amazing! Worth the 10 bucks for the dev

Föderation EN Mi 12.03.2025 02:05:47

@stux this is my first time hearing of . It looks pretty stunning though. Maybe I'll have to give it a shot sometime! Currently I stick to and .

@stux @markwyner

Ooh, looks nice! Running Navidrome atm, but I'll try this out as well and see where they differ.

Also, yep, Spotify is horrible. I was using my family's subscription but recently moved off it because of many reasons. I thought their continued support of Joe Rogan + paying so little was enough, but this is just another reason to not look back.

I remember trying to use Spotify for podcasts, but the UX is vastly inferior to the FOSS alternatives (+ a big feature of podcasts are that they are just RSS) and you still get ads as a paying subscriber. Shit platform overall.
