@georgetakei He should have never been allowed to run in the first place, considering he's been impeached twice, and is a 34-times convicted felon.

@flutergork @georgetakei just to play devils advocate here. I am in no way comparing the two in any way other then the way presented. Nelson Mandela was serving a life sentence in prison. All an incumbent would need to do was make whatever your leading opponent was doing a felony and you’d never face opposition. It’s a nuanced issue.

@passwordsarehard4 @georgetakei I suppose, although Mandela wasn't considered delusional and mentally ill by mental health professionals.

Perhaps a better example would be, e.g., Brazil, where a corrupt judicial system got Lula imprisoned on trumpted up charges (sorry) to pave the way for Bolsanaro to get elected.

But once you have corruption in the judicial system, it doesn't take too long down that particular dystopian road before any constitution becomes irrelevant, de facto. Which brings us back to the US…

@flutergork @georgetakei
He is an adjudicated seditionist, which constitutionally means he cannot be president unless a supermajority of congress say he can (A14) . But SCOTUS used quasi-legal sophistry to invert the plain meaning of the amendment, so a supermajority, or new legislation, would be required to *block* his presidency. Having declared “black is white” leaves the constitution (& the 14th Amdmnt) free to be runover on the next zebra crossing (e.g. allowing Musk to become president…)
