Mastodon admins, @rolle @stux, others: I have a question.

I'm setting up a new server and do this manually as opposed to hosting it this time around. Everything works fine, except for search.

I just seem to 'miss' something in the documentation and can't get ElasticSearch to work. Who has some great how to's available, like videos or blogs, that explain it for numbs like me? 😅

How have you setup search exactly? Since v4.2 the search has been changed quite a lot and now indexes more stuff

@stux let me see:
I followed the documentation (docs.joinmastodon.org/admin/el) up to security, which refers to the ES page (elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsea) which is where I get stuck.

More concretely I get stuck at "Create passwords for built-in users" which seems simple enough but doesn't work. The command doesn't run as root (for probably obvious security reasons), but also not as a local user, leading me to a 'permission denied'.

So, I'm just missing a step along the way, but for the life of me...
