So, while the massive crowds in NY, Washington, Boston and Chicago are great, please show your appreciation to those who protested in smaller towns.

Even a crowd of 25 or 30 people… they risk more. They’re holding up signs in front of their neighbours and people they know. That takes a courage that you don’t need in a big march in a big city.

Today I am off to my local #demonstration here in Málaga, aimed at pressuring those in power to prioritise citizens and their right to decent housing.

I do hope my American friends are preparing to turn out for their protest too.

It really doesn’t matter if you don’t have a sign. Or you don’t want to chant. Just be there with your body - even if only for a while - to let each other know you are present in the moment of protest.

As Canadians and Europeans, we grumble a lot. Often for very good reason.

But I think why the US Administration hates and fears both Canada and the EU so much is because they are terrified that one day, their own people will realise that it is possible to live in a society that:

-Takes care of its sick
-Gives people dominion over their own bodies.
-Gives new parents time to adjust to a new baby
- Makes hate speech a crime
-Takes the concept of the rule of law seriously
-Embraces human rights

I really hope people can hear me on this.

When people say that Trump is joking about this or that, Trump doesn’t joke. He literally cannot joke.

When he says he’s ‘joking’, it’s simply something he flew up the flag pole to see if it would fly, but it didn’t. So then he says he’s joking.

But he’s never joking.

A true joke takes something Trump doesn’t have.

This is the most disgusting form of ‘disappearing’ - of the extermination of memory.

This is no different from Holocaust denial.

That is a perfect example of the limitation of free speech.
