Periodic toot about my astonishment that a lot of “techies” don’t know that macOS is a true UNIX operating system going back in a direct line to the original UNIX (and BSD). ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Replies are so messed up on Mastodon, even replies I make to my own posts. People rarely read them before replying themselves, because the threads/replies aren't shown in the home timeline; leading to confusion and repetition.

Why isn't there threading in timelines?

(Please don't answer that alternative clients do that; I'm talking about the web client in Mastodon.)

I literally worked for like a year from late 1998 to the end of 1999 to fix databases of utility companies and health systems to not, you know, completely and utterly fail come January 1st, 2000.

People don't even want to wear masks for 5 minutes when their literal lives depend on it and tech companies think everyone will be ecstatic about wearing VR goggles for 8 hours a day for work.

Story time, so my grandfather was a cop.

He also was a bona fide Nazi, like an actual one in World War II, fighting for the third Reich and everything.

After the war he was looking for a job so (in his words) he “could still beat people up”.

I strongly believe that being able to commit violence without consequence is a strong motivator for many or most people working in “law enforcement”.

We’re all paying taxes in order to arm a bunch of violent psychopaths to terrorize ourselves.
