Föderation EN So 26.01.2025 03:40:15 The fediverse is how the internet should be. Decentralized, billionaire-free, and puts users in control. Don't take it for granted. |
Föderation EN So 26.01.2025 07:05:58 @techlore The Internet was just that way, before 1995. |
Föderation EN So 26.01.2025 07:51:46 Exactly! Fight for your freedom. |
Föderation EN So 26.01.2025 08:02:35 @techlore The fediverse is how it all should be =) |
Föderation IT So 26.01.2025 08:19:12 @techlore and yet, I am afraid that if the fediverse became big enough the billionaires would found a way to enshittify it. Or at the very least, they would try their hardest. |

Föderation EN So 26.01.2025 10:06:54 @techlore cat's out of the bag. Everything techwise on fedi is open source. Anyone can insantiate a server. They cannot stop fedi anymore, just like nobody can stop torrents |
Föderation EN So 26.01.2025 10:11:11 @techlore I'd even go on to say that this is how it was before MySpace, Twitter, Facebook & Co, In the 90s, and first half of the zeros (2000s) the web was decentralised. The biggest focal point might have been search engines like Yahoo, Altavista and Google. |
Föderation EN So 26.01.2025 12:06:22 @harmonicarichard And back then, search engines' primary purpose was to help you find the needle in the haystack. Not to in themselves provide answer-shaped outputs. |
Föderation EN So 26.01.2025 12:13:01 @techlore not the Ruby on Rails part though |
Föderation EN So 26.01.2025 15:36:15 @techlore crazy how many interactions you can get on the fediverse even tough way less people use it compared to the big social media platforms |
Föderation EN So 26.01.2025 16:26:50 Qp @techlore it is also how the world should be |
Föderation FR So 26.01.2025 19:13:17 @GythaOgg ๐ซถ |
Föderation EN Mo 27.01.2025 12:40:39 @techlore I would say to be more specific "wealth hoading, unmoral, and unethical billionaires". Not all billionaires are bad. For example, the Costco ceo intentionally tries to keep their food court food cheap. And in recent instances tried to resist the DEI removal which I find very reassuring. Although it may be a public image thing for them I think that this is still a net postive as a whole. The ceo of gas companies can go shove it where it don't shine thou. |
Föderation EN Mo 27.01.2025 16:53:52 @rivenskye @techlore All billionaires. A benevolent king can still decide to change their mind. |
