PS: yahoo and good in the same sentence tss tss luckily they had nearly no coverage here so the damage was limited.

@simon @amapanda Indeed we don't. But many tutorials and courses on OpenStreetMap start with that, and often don't go anywhere else. So we do have to acknowledge that the majority of mappers don't even know about an option to just go outside.

(Heh, yeah, my city mapped from Yahoo was the reason for Replace Geometry JOSM tool)

@simon @zverik @amapanda if aerial imagery isn't important then surely there's no problem...

In reality, a huge amount of the value of OSM comes from mapping which is only really feasible with aerial imagery.

At any rate, we still have Esri which is better than Bing in many cases, but it will be a concern if there's only a single provider.

@russss yeah, Aerial Imagery has been great for OSM.

And it's a shame that we've lost 2 large global aerial imagery sources in the last few years.
