@pseudonym I think you should definitely check out Vivaldi as it is very much geared towards its users and privacy, has built in ad blocking (and you can use extensions), has excellent android and iOS versions (with sync), has mail and feeds on desktop, and a great user community (I'm writing from Vivaldi's hosted Fedi server).

That's what I've been trying recently.

Has problems playing some videos in chrome book that Firefox handles. Likely not a browser issue, but doesn't work out of the box

@pseudonym @jon that could be the built-in ad blocking. Check the shield icon in the address bar and try disabling it...

Thanks. I hadn't even considered that. Don't think so, as it can play the audio, the video just covers up as a blank white screen, so I figure both would come from the same source file, but maybe.

I'll check.

Searches imply it may be related to hardware acceleration, but all the sure that mention it refer to options not currently in the version of Vivaldi I have.

Pretty sure I tried that, and didn't come up with anything. Will check again next time I'm in Chromebook. Thanks!

Confirmed. I don't have that option in settings.

"Acc" in settings search shows only "accessibility" and "keyboard accessory view"

@pseudonym @jon apologies - forgot we were talking about the mobile version. :mastodon_oops:

No prob.

It's chrome book. Wonder if there's a way to run desktop version, but it's Android under the hood, so maybe mobile is all that's available.

@jon @mossman

Thanks.

I've installed Linux on Chrome book before. Didn't think an other layer of indirection would help a graphics issue, but it's worth a shot. It would let me install desktop version. Worth a shot.
