We've moved to Codeberg!

Very much looking forward to becoming part of the vibrant community there.

@liberaforms little typo in the post?

> Thank you to the GitLab team for having us.

🤔

Föderation EN Mo 07.04.2025 14:22:00

@mathilde Is there? Where??

Föderation EN Mo 07.04.2025 14:27:53

@liberaforms never mind, I realized you were hosted on GitLab before, and not Gitorious.

@liberaforms @Codeberg

question about this move.
you didn't move from github (proprietary and Microsoft owned) to gitlab (FOSS/proprietary).

you moved from gitlab to codeberg.

what was the reasons?

was the FOSS version of gitlab subpar?
was gitlab too complicated or slow (my own perception).

by the way if the reason was the semi opensource nature of gitlab, if codeberg goes the same way (foss to foss/proprietary) would you move again?

@rezad

More than because of gut-feeling, intuition, and community, than because of any concrete technical difficulty. GitLab feels like a machine whereas Codeberg feels like a hackers space.

Oh.
I was ready to be bombarded with technical jargon that I had to pretend to understand.

BTW does codeberg has any federation ability?
Or ease of export import of whole data?
I wouldn't want to be locked in.

Föderation EN Di 08.04.2025 11:48:42

@rezad
Federation is WIP, but will take a long time to be really convenient and properly usable. However, we aim at delivering a few first useful features soon.

You can find recent updates in the newsletters, e.g. forgejo.org/2025-02-monthly-up and forgejo.org/2025-01-monthly-up. Also take a look at the linked roadmap at codeberg.org/forgejo-contrib/f.

I read that the app is self hosted. So i can install it on my own.

But what I asked is if I use for example your instance for my project then want to move to another instance, can I do that with complete(almost complete) export import?

Föderation EN Di 08.04.2025 12:50:50

@rezad No, we haven't got export/import user accounts figured out yet.

Föderation EN Di 08.04.2025 15:10:22

@liberaforms
I was talking about codeberg, but good to know.

Föderation EN Mi 09.04.2025 21:29:55

@rezad
You can migrate user accounts: Forgejo allows to import repositories.

However, it relies on the other side to do the import. There is currently no proper "export" feature.
