The theory says that businesses succeed when customers have the money to buy their products. Therefore, the theory says, it's good for unemployment to remain low, because when it is high there are too many people who can't afford to buy stuff, and businesses fail.

The Democrats on the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee are holding hearings about what's going on at VA. I was invited to testify at one of the hearings (will post more about this later) and was told, "If your friends and family want to watch live, this will be streaming on the SVAC Democrats Facebook and X/Twitter feeds."
That the Dems are streaming only on Facebook and Twitter is another illustration that they're not up to the moment we're in.

BREAKING: A bunch of U.S. Digital Service employees (including me) were fired tonight. It's still unclear exactly how many. There is no visibility whatsoever into what determined who was let go. Legacy USDS (i.e., pre-DOGE) leadership was not involved in the decision about whom to let go and was not notified in advance that people were going to be fired.

This is the room I'm trapped in for the next week while participating in a #clinicalTrial for a potentially revolutionary #cholera vaccine called #PanChol invented here at Brigham & Women's hospital (#BWH) in #Boston. I'll basically be doing my regular job all week while helping save lives.
I'm in isolation because if I were to shed the vaccine and somebody else picked it up from me it could cause a false cholera outbreak panic.

The thing I hope is alarming people about today's #CrowdStrike outage is that if the company can take out that much of America's tech infrastructure by accident with a single buggy update, our adversaries can do the same on purpose with a supply-chain attack against CrowdStrike, and that one probably wouldn't be as quick to recover from. #infosec

I received two emails late last night from a user of my #Thunderbird extension.
The first read, in total, "WHY AM I GETTING HUNDREDS OF NOTICES!!!!"
The second, a bit later, read (again, this is the entire message), "JEZUS FUCKINNG CHRIST THE MESSAGES"

Please stop circulating the outrage porn about #Facebook in 2022 turning over the chat between a mother & daughter which led to the mother being criminally charged with aiding an abortion.
They had to. They were served a court order, and there were no legal grounds to challenge it.
I despise #Meta—I deleted my FB account years ago and refuse to use Insta or WhatsApp—but this ain't it.
There's plenty to be angry at them for without being angry at them for following the law. 1/2
