Trying to switch from to is doing in my brain... the tab "X" reverses from the right to the left, so instead of making one active I keep closing it.

Do people find V easy to use? Do you use workspaces rather than stacked tabs or vice versa? Wondering about people's experiences, if you feel like sharing. Thanks.

Föderation · Di 11.02.2025 15:55:32

@czarbucks@vmst.io huh, why is Vivaldi reversed? pretty sure you should be able to configure that or something

Vivaldi is easy as hell to use, but it also sucks me into a customisation rabbit hole. I love Vivaldi. Only got rid of it because it forks Chromium or something. Would do anything to get stacked tabs in Firefox.

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 16:22:04

@writeblankspace

I read that because Mac, the x's stay on the left and that's an end to it. Windows, they're on the right.

Thanks for the post. Many sites are no longer loading for me in FF, so it's time for me.

Föderation EN Mi 12.02.2025 09:07:11

@czarbucks, @writeblankspace is right, there is a setting for changing the close button's location in Settings > Tabs > Tab Display > Tab Options.

Föderation EN Mi 12.02.2025 11:16:26

@Vivaldi @writeblankspace

Well, thank you to both of you. Clicking off "Show Tab Button" option of "On Left Side" does reverse it to the right, just what I need if not 100% intuitive.

Now, can I move the "new tab" button up onto the address bar, where I'm used to it?

Föderation EN Mi 12.02.2025 13:30:12

@czarbucks
Yes and no. You can't move the button as such, but you can create a new button.

To do that, create a new Command Chain with "New Tab" as the only command, if you want, add a custom icon and add the button to the Address Bar.
Check the following tips for step by step instructions:

@czarbucks I'm interested in knowing this as well. I've used firefox since firebird but it may be time for a change....

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 16:00:47

@czarbucks I mostly use tab stacks. That makes more sense to me. Speed dial is really helpful as are the synced notes.

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 16:19:41

@cynical13

Thanks. The stacks seemed more intuitive, but I need to figure it out.

wish we could edit/customize the toolbar like one can with FF, that huge URL window is taking some getting used to.

Just have to keep at it, I guess. Appreciate the post.

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 16:35:35

@czarbucks You can. Right click on the bar on tge bottom of the screen. Yiu can select the taskbar from there and customize it to your heart's content. You can probably access that menu from one of the settings tabs too, I just don't know it off the top of my head.

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 17:17:30

@cynical13

Huh. I'm not finding that, but will look around, thought there was no option for this. Thanks again.

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 17:18:32

@czarbucks I'm stuck on my phone for now, but I'll check my desktop when I get to my office.

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 17:20:12

@cynical13 Thanks, sorry to be so clueless. On FF you can add spaces, change the width of url bar, move icons, etc, and I ahven't found that here yet.

Appreciate it.

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 18:14:40

@czarbucks Press F2 or Ctrl-E (at least on Windows or Linux) and the Quick Commands window will pop up. Type "Customize Toolbar" and the appropriate window will come up.

You can do all the same kinds of things you would do with Firefox in Vivaldi.

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 18:19:38

@cynical13

That's... great. I'll see if I can get that to work, appreciate it.

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 18:31:07

@cynical13

Many thanks, that accomplished much of what I needed to do.

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 18:38:04

@czarbucks Woohoo! Glad I could help. It's a fine browser, it just takes a little time to get acquainted and check under the hood.

I love the Quick Command window for finding things and for doing quick calculations, instead of having to pull up a calculator program.

Good luck and if you need anything, please holler! I love to help.

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 19:32:41

@cynical13

That's awesome, you're a brick. I have to just close FF and live with V sometime soon, instead of dipping in and running back.

Getting a "new tab" button up on the address bar as eluded me, but I'll keep at it.

Again, thanks.

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 16:47:33

@czarbucks I love Vivaldi. You might look at settings to see if you can make it work in ways that are more familiar to you. (On a PC, click on the little gear in the lower left corner.)

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 17:11:15

@czarbucks I love the syncing between devices, like PC and iOS.

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 17:16:59

@czarbucks Yes, I don't think you can move the "X" on tabs, unfortunately.

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 22:45:11

@czarbucks I use @Vivaldi as my work browser, as most of my work is done in a browser.

I specifically use:

- Workspaces
- Routing specific domains to specific workspaces
- Command chains

This way, only dev tabs are opened in the dev workspace, test in test, prod in prod. I can't get it wrong even if I tried.

And I only need CTRL+E to open 3 relevant tabs for each workspace.

Föderation EN Di 11.02.2025 23:00:07

@wabisaaby @Vivaldi

That's very clever. It seems incredibly flexible for so many different workflows.

Thanks!
