Baking pro-tip: if you didn’t plan on baking and so did not pre-soften your butter and you are baking NOW, if you get the butter out and then search “how to soften butter quickly” and then click on “why butter has to be soft” and then on links about how different fat contents and temperatures affect the size and stability of the air bubbles and on and on and on, the butter will be sufficiently soft by the time you remember what you were doing.

@WhiteCatTamer this is a good one

@WhiteCatTamer and that's why I removed Reddit from My life 😂

@WhiteCatTamer

...just remember to take the butter out of the fridge BEFORE strarting the internet search trip!

@WhiteCatTamer This also applies to freezing butter, say, for biscuits

@WhiteCatTamer This also applies to "Griesklösschen" for a "Griesklösschensuppe" aka "Nockerlsuppe". Let the butter get warm and soft at room temperature - do _not_ heat beyond the 40°C point where it gets runny. Runny Butter behaves entirely different. The key to soft "Griessklösschen" is the butter being malleable and neither fluid nor too cold and hard.

@WhiteCatTamer Hey @KayOhtie ...

(he already knows these things, but the brain is real)

@WhiteCatTamer @MsHearthWitch

Me, every time just squishing the butter with my warm hands and hoping for the best 🤣

@WhiteCatTamer finally a feasible tip :masto_lol:

@WhiteCatTamer suddenly, giving my cold butter 5-10 seconds in the microwave doesn’t sound as appealing as this

Föderation EN Di 28.05.2024 21:38:26

@WhiteCatTamer I always keep a pound of butter in the cupboard.
Regular salted butter is fine that way in an airtight container for a week or so, not that it ever lasts that long here.

Föderation EN Mi 29.05.2024 00:35:38

@WhiteCatTamer Put it in a bowl in the microwave for 90 seconds.
