It's not really a thing as far as I know?

The "sign in with Mastodon" on Pixelfed basically just copies over some of your settings from the Mastodon account, but still creates a new Pixelfed account.

Yeah, so the reason I ask is because I saw a thing even longer ago (I think from Feditips?) about how you can get for example posts in your Mastodon account, but if you go to Lemmy itself then you have a more appropriate front-end, where in this case you would have a better threading experience, etc., so I was wondering which of them also support this pixelfed feature.

It sounds like you're just talking about the general feature on the Fediverse where if you follow an account from another service, its posts will appear in your timeline?

You don't need to sign in on the other service for this to happen. You can follow other services' accounts from Mastodon just like you would follow any Mastodon account.

Yeah, that was from this end, but then the article says that if you go to the other end you have the more appropiate UI for interacting with the content (in the case of Lemmy it's threading, in the case of peertube it'd be the various play controls, etc.), but also, I think(?) you can receive your Mastodon content there, in your feed there.

So for example, first screenshot is what I see boosted to my Mastodon feed from following a Kbin magazine, and in the post if I click on the link it takes me to the original post (but separate login needed, but pixelfed supports using your Mastodon account, once you have gone through the set-up for that).

You can only receive your Mastodon content there if you also have an account there and then follow your Mastodon account from there.
