@Nic3 Hi,

F-Droid is an alternative app store for Android applications that only offers apps whose source code is “open source” in its standard repository. It is possible to view the source code of the apps publicly and, if possible, the apps are compiled by F-Droid itself and the code is checked for security issues (e.g. security vulnerabilities) and privacy-friendliness (e.g. tracking mechanisms). This process also ensures that the application in the store actually consists of the published code and not something else.

F-Droid can be used without creating an account and does not compile any statistics about the store users; only app download figures are logged anonymously. F-Droid must be installed by users themselves. The store app can be downloaded from the F-Droid page (f-droid.org/). Beforehand, the “Installation of software from unknown sources” must be allowed in the smartphone settings. This setting can be made under Settings > Security.

@SECUSO_Research
I've been using F-Droid for a while now to my tablet. I'm trying to replace as many pre-installed apps as possible with open source apps, which has worked well so far. At first, you'll have to search for something to find a suitable replacement, but that goes pretty quickly.
