· Föderation EN Fr 17.01.2025 10:32:16 @AlsoPaisleyCat @camcare @GottaLaff Just to add, blind people often don't use avatar photos because they are using the internet through audio interfaces. They will have profile text etc but just no photo as they aren't using a visual interface. So, it might be good to allow profiles with blank avatars as long as they have a bio text? |
Föderation EN Fr 17.01.2025 14:17:40 It’s the complete lack of indicators of who you’re dealing with that is the flag for me. (While we shouldn’t expect that persons who are Blind will provide profile pics or banners, it’s also true that many do. ) I would agree that it’s a combination of no profile pic or banner (some have banners but no profile pic), no profile description, no post or comment history, no hashtags they follow and only seeking to follow or interact with one high profile account that together are a flag. People can take a bit of time to get set up, but making follow requests or attempting to interact, especially by direct messaging, while offering no information about your interests, isn’t reasonable. |
Föderation EN Fr 17.01.2025 15:48:35 @AlsoPaisleyCat @camcare @GottaLaff I'm just saying don't use the profile picture as an indicator. A lot of respected blind people on here don't use profile pictures. By contrast, most of the spammers I've seen DO use profile pictures. On the post history, you need to check the original version of their profile as they may appear blank from your server if no one has followed them before. You can do this by going to their profile, click ... then "open in browser" or "open original page". |
Föderation EN Fr 17.01.2025 16:00:32 @FediTips @AlsoPaisleyCat @camcare Right. I don’t block based on no profile pic. That’s why I didn’t block @camcare. But I asked that she provide one because it’s an indicator that I notice … before I vet the entire profile and posts. |
