Is Bluesky 'obeying in advance'?

Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF) has just launched its own dedicated Mastodon server, social.freedom.press: https://freedom.press/about/announcements/our-new-home-on-the-fediverse/

"The Fediverse is nonalgorithmic and community-driven, without the potential algorithmic distortions or content suppression imposed by centralized platforms."

All FPF-related activity on Mastodon is now accessible from a single Fediverse server: @securedrop @dangerzone @foiafeed

Hopefully this move will be an example to other organizations.

Partisan Quick Guide To X Alternatives

So, you're finally deciding to leave X. Good for you. Here are your choices and you can pick more than one:

1. Threads - Commercial (Meta). Lots of popular ex-X accounts. Looks like X. No ads yet. Algorithm driven.

2. Bluesky - Commercial (Private). Looks like X, No ads yet. Customizable algorithm.

3. Mastodon - Open System Collective. Totally Awesome. Doesn't look like X. Threads/Bluesky bridges. No Algorithm (That's a good thing!)

So now SpaceX, with no working spacesuit, and years behind on it's multi-billion dollar moon lander, is lobbying NASA to go to the Hubble Space Telescope.

Bridge to Bluesky

Apparently, Ryan Barrett @snarfed.org, an engineer/developer, is about to connect a bridge between Mastodon (Fediverse) and Bluesky.

Of note the bridge is OPT-OUT. That is, your content will be automatically bridged to Bluesky, UNLESS you OPT-OUT.

So how do you opt-out? You have to DM Ryan Barnett at @snarfed, email him (somehow), file a GitHub issue, or put #nobridge in your profile bio.
