Have a request of all the Threads accounts that federated here. With the recent changes at Meta, and now ads on the way, it seems like this glorious federated Threads thing is probably not going to happen.

It's a good time to at least create an insurance Mastodon account. Who knows you might like it here. And, please consider skipping Bluesky. Haven't you moved enough? Public social media is the only viable defense against manipulation and marginalization.

The reports are coming in from all over the Fediverse. While pixelfed.social is understandably working to accommodate the huge influx of new users, other Pixelfed instances are operating just like normal.

Users report these Pixelfed servers are running just fine:

Cory rightly took exception to the "scolding" tone of some of the discussion so far. It is hoped that here, at least, we can keep it focused on the substance of this issue.

Hold onto you hats. This is going to be a great week for the Fediverse.

For years now to most people, the Fediverse has meant Mastodon. The fact there are thousands of Mastodon servers that all talk to each other is kind of a mind blower, but we've figured it out.

This week, thanks to Meta, people are discovering Pixelfed, another Fediverse app that likewise is deployed on many different servers that all talk to each other.

And they all talk to your Mastodon account too!

The beauty of the Fediverse is that it is distributed. Take this opportunity to be distributed!

Folks Pixelfed is getting slammed.

Since Meta started blocking links to #Pixelfed it seems the world has discovered this wonderful public Instagram alternative picture sharing social media application (see Striesand effect).

But things that are public, rely on us to fund them. @dansup does not have a bunch of VC billionaires writing big checks for more server capacity.

If you can spare a few dollars to support public social media, right now is the time to do so!

Can you believe this nonsense? Apparently, since it is insanely expensive to actually turn Bluesky into a distributed system, these folks are looking for $30M 👀 to build a second AT Protocol relay so that this VC backed corporate platform can somehow become free from billionaires. 🤦‍♂️

Or just set up an Activitypub server for a hundred dollars and actually 'free your feed'.

Apparently Meta is afraid of Pixelfed. Clearly, @dansup is doing something right. Can't imagine a bigger compliment.

Apparently Bluesky ranks among the worst in their experience for trackers.
