Folks, maybe you are aware of the matter today regarding some rancid behavior toward Mastodon treasure @GottaLaff. Well, not going to comment on the details. You can easily find it.

What is heartening is the overwhelming degree of support for Laffy, demonstrating the collective power of Mastodon to pull together to defend valued members of our community.

This episode just underscores that what we have built here is precious. Here, we the people, are in control not the billionaires.

One of our brightest stars @_elena has created a great Fediverse promotional video. This tour de force is posted across multiple platforms in different languages. It should be obvious promoting the Fediverse is best done by connecting with people not currently on the Fediverse, but some people don't like that it is available on YouTube. NOTICE: Your account may soon be bridged to #Bluesky whether or not you want it to be.

According to @LaurensHof's excellent Fediverse Report (https://fediversereport.com/fediverse-report-121/) changes have been made to the Bluesky bridge.

"Bridgy Fed, the bridging software that connects ActivityPub with ATProto, has gotten an update where server admins can opt-in to the bridge for their entire server."

Thought Bluesky bridge opt-in vs opt-out was settled. Why has this been done without soliciting community input?

To Bluesky users. CEO Jay Graber has said #Bluesky is decentralized. If you don't like what the company is doing, you have the option to move your account.

So, for instance, if the company welcomed and verified JD Vance, as has now happened, you could move elsewhere.

Well folks, this was a lie, Bluesky is actually a centralized platform. There is no place on Bluesky to move to.

But you do have one option. Move to the Fediverse. A truly decentralized defensible public social media network.

Would like to point out this is a fundamental weakness of a centralized US corporate platform. The company has no practical option but to 'welcome' VP Vance.

In a truly decentralized network, individual instances have options on how to deal with such a situation. With Bluesky it's an all or nothing proposition.

Folks, we are the Fediverse. We don't have big advertising or marketing budgets. Just great social media applications that communicate with each other across a big beautiful truly decentralized ActivityPub powered network. No ads. No algorithms. No data harvesting. Build for people by people.

URGENT PINNED POST SCROLL BUG!

The latest update v4.4.0-nightly.2025-05-27 changes the pinned posts back to the top of the profile, but shaded and they scroll left to right.

BUT, when you touch the pinned post you can no longer scroll up and down. Since it fills most of the screen the effect is to make the scroll stick on the pinned post. You can touch the thin strip above to 'unstick' it, but it is not intuitive and is really clunky.

So, it's a really bad idea to send Bluesky a picture of your official government ID!

Folks, while on the subject of #Bluesky privacy practices (https://mastodon.online/@mastodonmigration/114559301810012438), it is entirely up to you, but if you get locked out of your Bluesky account and they ask you to send an image of your passport, highly recommend that you don't do it.
